Beirut, 10 - 11 March 2007

This seminar on the “Independence and impartiality of the Judiciary – Lebanon” was the third of the four national seminars planned by the Justice Working Group under its current project. Taking its outset in the 2005 regional report on Justice in the South and East of the Mediterranean Region, the seminar aimed at evaluating the situation of the judiciary in Lebanon in respect to its level of independence and impartiality and identifying and appreciating any positive or negatives changes that had occurred recently within the field.

The seminar was organized in cooperation with the Lebanese members of the Justice Working Group, i.e. Mouvement franco-libanais Solida, the Palestinian Human Rights Organisation and Mr. Georges Assaf. It was financially supported by the European Union and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
