Lebanon: Free Foreign Prisoners When Sentences End
Beirut, February 25, 2010 – Lebanon should release migrants and refugees who remain in detention despite having finished their sentences, a group of 14 Lebanese and international human rights organizations said yesterday in a letter to top officials. The letter to the president, prime minister and justice and interior ministers says there is no legal basis for continuing to detain most of these prisoners....

Call for the Immediate Release of Saad Muhammad Ismaïl
Our organizations call for the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Saad Muhammad Ismaïl, a 54-year-old Iraqi refugee, illegally detained in Lebanon since July 4th 2007, or 31 months. Arrested on May 4th 2007, Saad Ismaïl was sentenced on July 4th 2007 to two months of prison for a minor offense and should have been released on the very same day of his conviction. He has been detained since the end of his sentence without any legal basis....

The EMHRN, FIDH and CIJ organised a seminar in Morocco on January 22-23 on “Judicial Reform in Morocco”. The necessity of judicial reform in Morocco is largely agreed upon within Moroccan civil society. Kurdish refugees in Corsica: asylum or charter flights?
On Friday, January 22nd, a ship dropped off 140 people on the south coast of Corsica. These people were exhausted and starved. They are women and children desperately trying to escape from what the Universal Declaration of Human Rights calls “terror and misery”. These people are Kurds from Syria, fleeing one of the worst possible existences under one of the worst possible regimes. They are seeking asylum....
